Who is a Soul Mate? By Rrachita Gupta Ravera

GENERALLY when a regular person who does not deal too much with spiritual terms hears the word SOUL MATE he gets a very definite flash of a romantic partner.

As part of our common language we refer to our love parteners as soul mates. But actually this is not true.
Much against popular belief, a soul mate is not necessarily your life partener or your love companion. Infact a soul mate cannot be restricted to just a romantic connotation.

We must understand that soul mate is literally someone who is a partener of your soul purpose for either:
1. A specific karma to be performed
2. A specific time period has to be spent together as decided by fate so that common life experiences can be shared together as per a karmic contract drawn up even before our birth with that person.
Sure , soulmate means someone who your  soul will feel a strange connection, maybe even a yearning to connect with. Out of thousands the radar of your soul will turn towards that person and you will want to be with them.

But that can happen between a father and daughter or an aunt and her niece or even two unlikely persons who later become the best of buddies. You can have a lovely platonic warm hearted and emotionally fulfilling relationship with your soul mate.

Understand that any relation or bond you feel very strongly about in this lifetime is  your soul mate.  They can be your parents, or your children ,or your spouse , or your office colleague,  or even your neighbour.

Infact soul mates can even be animals or birds you feel a strong connection with. They are also souls albeit in a different physical form. But remember its the soul energies contacting and connecting with each other and not the bodily form only.

When we are born into this physical reality, we have an entire procedure of karmic balance sheeting done in the Hall of Judgement.  This tradition has been documented in abcient civilizations such as the Egyptian (hall of death and Osiris), the Jewish (book of Zorah and how many Sephiroth have been traversed in the tree of Life) and even our very own Indian as in Yamraaj sitting with his karma judiciary.

In this divine court the souls who have been travelling over many births now have to settle their karmic debts.  They have to choose their new births and their new parents and their new habitats in a way that the pending karmic debts of previous births are settled to a maximum in this lifetime at least so that as the soul proceeds further in its evolution cycle the baggage of preceding debts becomes lesser and lesser.

The intrinsic responsibility of each soul in its Divine path is to keep shedding this preceding baggage as it moves to merge with the Whilte Light.

It does this by settling the SOUL CONTRACTS of debts and credits it has built up over lifetimes with its soul mates. The same souls keep criss crossing each other during different lifetimes.
It is true that certain karmic connections may draw people towards each other. This does not mean, however, that these will be ideal relationships. The success of these relationships will depend on the maturity and sensitivity with which we approach them.
They may succeed but more often they will be fraught with internal bitterness.

Thus if you meet a person in this lifetime you feel attracted to then pay heed to it. Form a bond or relationship with that person. Your soul may either be repaying his debts then you will feel losses or suffering in the bond. Accept it with peace. Accept it with a feeling of surrender and acceptance.  Once your repayment is done then you can go your seperate ways. Finally released of any obligations to each other. Aaah! The liberation of the soul to seek new partners and settle more scores so that the soul may be light again; it may be pure again. It may be again as the Divine wants it to be for your highest happiness

Accept your soul mates with open arms. They may come as friends to  give you their due or they may come as your enemy to take back from you what you owe them.  You can have hundreds of soul mates in one lifetime so stop looking for just romantic ones.

Ofcourse the romantic soul mate is one of the  most fulfilling BONDS we can have in a birth cycle. Its that person who gives us a sense of completion. There is more harmony than conflict and the souls seem to talk in silent secret language all of its own. There is a deep thirst to unite intellectually, emotionally and physically with this person. Compassion and understanding towards the other flows naturally.  This kind of spiritual UNION is not in every one's cosmic life plan and maturity suggests that one not remain fixated on finding just the romantic soul mate but rather the variety of other soulmates that are also searching for you and trying to gravitate towards you in non romantic roles.
Form all sorts of bonds so that maximum give and take can be done. The more you settle, the faster you can progress in your spiritual life as you rise from the chords holding you chained to earthly obligations.

Meditate.  Mingle. Understand who to give to and who to take from. Surrender to this ultimate divine bahi-khata or karmic ledger. Its all part of your human experience as the travelling soul that you inherently are.
